Customer Review: Nice, but plunger could be a lot better

I bought this early this year (2010) after breaking three glass French presses in the first three months of the year. I like it for coffee I'm going to drink at home, but the plunger doesn't work all that well. Perhaps that's because I like very strong coffee, but of course if I didn't like very strong coffee, I wouldn't buy a French press, would I? I have to let the coffee sit for a minute or so after pouring in the boiling water, then stir it up before putting in the plunger, and not push the plunger too hard, or coffee will squirt out of the pot when I push the plunger. The plunger doesn't do a very good job. When I pour the coffee into a mug after plunging, there's about a quarter inch of grounds in the bottom of the mug. That's not too bad at home, since the grounds stay on the bottom, but I just made some to take out. I like to use a straw for take-out coffee, but I can't with this or I'd be sucking up grounds. I'm going to look for a reusable filter that I can pour the contents of the pot into, to get all the grounds out, for when I want to make coffee to take out. It beats having to replace glass French presses all the time. I managed not to break the first glass press for several years, but then I knocked it over and broke it while vacuuming, and bought two replacements neither of which lasted much more than a month before I broke them. At that point I'd had enough of glass presses. It is just about the right size to get 15 ounces of coffee in a 16-ounce mug.
